I would dream the women back
who danced themselves alive
who loved the vivid night,
circling under the full moon.
They stamped on earth,
their ankle bells ringing,
silver skirts swinging wide,
dancing their benediction
to drums, flutes, the torches
held high, so she could see.
'who danced themselves alive'... such a deeply beautiful line.
ReplyDeletei can see them there, pounding their bodies against the earth... for ... answers? meaning? life?... you say as a benediction. such grace..
a living photograph into the inner spirit of woman/humankind.
Ooh Lorna I love this. Such rich and potent imagery, I could see (and feel) this one. Nice writing. :-)
