Cold Front

The winter is stomping around us
his grey scarves swirling snow
and freezing rain. Out in the wild,
shivering deer have less protection
than the thin tents of the homeless.

Let’s pull the drapes,
light the iron stove,
and hope none
of the bitterness
can seep in
under our door.
