Recollection

What was the wine that the women drank
from the lips of Rilke? Did he whisper
the old religion, the mandala
of belonging to the cosmos?
When we walk back into
the churchcave of our paleohearts
will we find that poet shaman
already there?

  4. Wonderfully crafted poem. I am not so of the long poetry forms I am more of the short ones such as haiku (Japanese poetry-form), but this one is really nice to read ... that imagery you give with your words ... well done.

  5. the wine the women drank was the dangerous kind, the kind with truth and the full bodied mouth of unforgiveness. did they fully understand the beauty of drinking from the dying deer, of the mystery which is?

i have discovered rilke later in life and i love him very much, all of his complexities, his danger, his fervor, his tender love.

  11. So much condensed here... and yes, I am one of Rilke's women fans... His love poetry is so gorgeous, so evocative, the magic of the senses.
