Parabola of Longing

The yearning is flung out
in a long parabolic sweep
until the arch must turn,
its governing ratio forcing
everything back to a new anchor.

Another shock wave will
send it out again, again to search
yet never achieving the bliss of unity.
Precise, sequential, it must cover
vast stretches of solitude.

No laughter-loving goddess, no
Plato knew love is a secret beggar
hungry, in rags
sleeping on the grids and
hanging out at crossroads.

But for a moment,
just at the slow turn, love
throws off the rags and shines
    through the purple woods as
    the morning star.

  1. This is a poem that is familiar to some of you. I put it out for an article that Sherry Merk is doing on my poetry for Poets United. I should be out this week. I'm excited to see it!

  2. Congratulations on the article, Lorna. I hope you'll be able to share it.

    1. Hi Maureen,
      I'll get it linked somehow!

  3. Wow, this is a beautiful poem, kiddo....and yes, you will be in the spotlight Wednesday morning at Poets United. I hope you like it!!!! You certainly will be able to share it on your site, with a link back to Poets United. Feel most welcome to do so.

p.s. The name Merk haunts me - my sister somehow put it on my computer and I so hate it, but dont know how to get it off - my long ago married name, not mine at all........I MUST legally change it, then maybe my karma will change, as well.

Anyway, this poem is deep, and lovely, and oh, the perfection of language: "shines through the purple woods as the morning star". Absolutely lovely.

  4. I know it will be wonderful. How great this is - to have these friends across the distances. I can't get over it.

  5. Wonderful poem, so happy to see you featured on Poets United~
You have a magical view! So hope you do an online goddess class... :D

    1. Hi Ella, Thanks for your nice comments. I'm planning a goddess class later this year! Welcome to my blog.
