on this day, every year

let her be born again

it's my mother's birthday

torn squares, that have 

come unquilted,

appear in odd places

the movie of time

flowing backwards

just for this one day

then the hum of necessity

a goodbye sent with 

the low ugly buzzing

of a kazoo, demanding

that I find the missing pages

some kind of an explanation
