A boat of lovers,
the music carries us out to sea
almost alone, each
reaching for the other shore...
just a little more rowing
past childhood islands
where old shed skin still gleams
like too tight jeans
on the shadowed dream world floor.
Listen as we sail away,
guitars filling the sails
with remembered songs while
a sly otter smiles, rocking
to the rhythm of our hearts.
Now, then, and it begins again.

ReplyDeleteSmiles back at you - thanks for the interesting comment.
DeleteI also was drawn to the second stanza. Childhood islands - it made me think of a new take on memory lane, only not on foot but in a boat. Very cool :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, amazing how strong music is...
DeleteOh gosh this was lovely, and to sail with guitar filled sails, and a sly otter smiling...magic I loved the whole journey thankyou!
ReplyDeleteOne of my husbands favorite bands - tells tales of seeing Heart in Montana when they were still playing bars. Great poem - loved the final stanza! K
ReplyDeleteI suddenly ran into the music after a long time away. How cool to have seen them early on.
DeleteThis takes me back to high school, in many ways.
ReplyDeleteHere is my offering: http://mcguffysreader.blogspot.com/2013/03/womens-day.html
Neven mind...we were great then.
DeleteAbsolutely lovely; redolent of nostalgia.
ReplyDeletethere's a nice and dreamy feel to your verse here..the guitar filling the sails..the too tight jeans made me smile..reminded of when we put on the jeans and laid in the bath tub to have them even tighter..ha...oh my... what weird things we did...smiles... very cool rhythm in your words as well
ReplyDeleteLove it the way this brings up the past for all of us. The jeans...oh yes.
DeleteI (heart) Heart...and they're from my neck o' the woods...I like your play here with Dreamboat Annie!
ReplyDeleteThe sheen of those jeans... great simile for that shed, gray and shiny. Nice image.
